This 9-day course in pain medicine is designed for beginners, emphasizing the establishment of conceptual clarity. By the end, participants will grasp the principles and objectives of chronic pain treatment. They will develop the ability to logically select appropriate intervention modalities for specific pain patients. The curriculum focuses on providing a comprehensive understanding of pain management strategies, empowering learners to make informed decisions regarding patient care. 


Applicants for this program must hold a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree or its equivalent from a recognized university in India or abroad. Additionally, they must have completed a minimum of one year of residency at a recognized hospital in any of the following disciplines: Anaesthesiology, Orthopaedics, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Neurosurgery, Neurology, Rheumatology, Radiology, and General Medicine. Candidates with post-graduate degrees or diplomas in these disciplines are exempt from further questioning regarding their qualifications. 


The date of commencement is any predeclared Saturday (9:30 am) and ends on next Sunday (3 pm). Everyday training is from 9:30 am to 4 pm with 1 hour lunch break. We have kept in mind the issue of not getting too many weekdays leave from the workplace.

The classes will be held at Rajarhat Pain Clinic in Newtown, Kolkata, and Samobathi Pain Clinic in Kolkata, according to the provided schedule.

For Indian citizens and (Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal & and Bhutan): INR 25,000/-  

(Candidates who have completed the Online Basic Pain Fellowship from Asian Pain Academy Basic Courses will receive a discounted rate of 20%.) 

For International participants: USD 450  

Other information:

Attendees are responsible for organizing their own food and lodging arrangements. Snacks and a working lunch will be provided during the course. Office staff can offer guidance over the phone, and there are hotels conveniently located within walking distance for individual accommodation needs.

Day 1 (Saturday) Introduction and Basics of Pain Management -

11:15 am to 12:15 am - Anatomy, Physiology and Pharmacology of Pain 

12:15 pm – 1:00 pm - Radiation safety 

1:00 pm to 2:00 pm - Lunch  

2:00 pm to 4:00 pm - Anatomy and Fluoro-anatomy of the spine with Practical Demonstration on Mannequin.  

Day 2 (Sunday) Basics of Ultrasound and Radiofrequency in Pain Management -  

9:30 am – 10:30 am - History taking of a Pain patient.  

10:30 am – 11:45 am - Evaluation of back pain.  

11:45 am – 12:00 noon – Tea Break  

12:00 noon to 1:00 pm - Basics of Ultrasound - Medical Ultrasound Physics, Technology and Principles,  

1:00 pm to 2:00 pm - Lunch 

2:00 pm to 3:00 pm - Echogenicity, Ultrasound Propagation, Machine Knobology, Ultrasound Transducers, Understanding Ultrasound Artifacts in Medical Imaging, Tissue Characterisation, Ultrasound Artifacts  

3:00 pm – 4:00 pm – Radiofrequency Ablation in Pain Management, Basics and Demonstration of the Radiofrequency Generator.  

Day 3 (Monday) Low Back Pain Basics -  

9:30 am – 10:30 am – How to interpret Interpretation of MRI LS Spine  

10:30 am – 11:30 am - Lumbosacral Radicular Pain 

11:30 am to 11:45 am – Tea Break  

11:45 am - 1:00 pm - Live Demonstration and Hands-on Practice on Mannequin - Transforaminal Epidural Steroid injection - Sub-pedicular approach and Kambin’s Triangle Approach, S1 Selective Nerve Root Block 

1:00 pm to 2:00 pm - Lunch 

2:00 pm to 3:00 pm – Discogenic Low Back Pain and Discography  

3:00 pm – 4:00 pm - Live Demonstration and Hands-on Practice on Mannequin – Discography and Caudal Epidural Steroid Injection under Fluoroscopic Guidance  

Day 4 (Tuesday) Upper Limb Ultrasound -  

9:30 am – 11:30 am - Shoulder Joint (Anatomy and Sono-anatomy) Live Demonstration and Hands-on Practice on Volunteer  

11:30 pm – 11:45 am – Tea Break 

11:45 am – 1:00 pm – Common Shoulder Pathologies - Adhesive Capsulitis, Biceps Tenosynovitis, Supraspinatus Tendinopathy, AC Joint Arthropathy  

1:00 pm to 2:00 pm - Lunch 

2:00 pm – 3:30 pm – Elbow, Wrist, and Hand (Anatomy and Sono-anatomy) Live Demonstration and hands-on Practice on Volunteer  

3:30 pm – 4:00 pm - Common Elbow, Wrist, and Hand Pathologies - Common Flexor Tendinopathy, Extensor Tendinopathy, Cubital Tunnel Syndrome, Radial Tunnel Syndrome, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, De Quervain's Disease, Trigger Finger.  

Day 5 Low Back Pain 2  

9:30 am – 10:30 am Approach to arthritis.   

10:30 pm – 1:00 pm - Facet Joint Arthropathy (Intraarticular/ Medial Branch Radiofrequency Ablation) 

SI Joint (Intraarticular/ Medial Branch Radiofrequency Ablation) 


Postherpetic neuralgia 

Approach to a patient with Headache.  

Day 6 (Thursday) - Lower Limb Ultrasound - 

9:30 am to 10:30 am - Prolotherapy principle and application of PRP, demonstration of the PRP preparation method. 

10:30 am – 11:30 am - Knee Joint (Anatomy and Sono-anatomy) Live Demonstration and Hands-on Practice on Volunteer  

11:30 pm – 11:45 am – Tea Break 

11:45 am – 1:00 pm – Common Knee Pathologies - Suprapatellar Recess Effusion, Housemaid’s Knee, Jumper's Knee, OA Knee
