The Asian Pain Academy continues to set benchmarks in hands-on pain medicine training. On Day 3 of the August 7–10, 2025 batch, participants had the rare opportunity to perform a full range of advanced interventional procedures on real patients under the direct supervision of Dr. Debjyoti Dutta and Dr Chinmoy Roy as senior faculty.
This was not just another teaching day — it was the ultimate immersion in real-world pain practice.
Real Cases, Real Procedures – Day 3 Case List- Asian Pain Academy Pain Medicine Workshop
1. Viscosupplementation with PRP Injection for Knee Osteoarthritis
Case: 58-year-old female with bilateral knee pain and lumbosacral radicular pain
Approach: Ultrasound-guided intra-articular injection combining PRP and viscosupplement for lubrication, pain reduction, and mobility improvement.
2. Gasserian Ganglion Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) for Trigeminal Neuralgia
Case: 53-year-old female, post-RFA in 2023, presenting with recurrence
Approach: Fluoroscopic-guided cannula placement, sensory/motor stimulation, and precision radiofrequency lesioning for lasting relief.

3. Ultrasound-Guided Diagnostic Block with Corticosteroid Injection for Ankle Pain
Case: 37-year-old male with post-traumatic talar dome cyst and tendon sheath fluid in Peroneus Tertius and Tibialis Posterior
Approach: Targeted injection into affected tendon sheaths under ultrasound guidance for diagnosis and symptom relief.
4. Ultrasound-Guided Carpal Tunnel Hydrodissection
Cases:
40-year-old female – Left CTS with fibromyalgia
44-year-old female – Bilateral CTS with diabetes and hypertension
Approach: Gentle fluid separation of the median nerve from surrounding tissues, relieving compression without surgery.
5. Diagnostic Block for Upper Back Pain – Trigger Point / Thoracic Facet Injection
Case: 41-year-old male with chronic trapezius pain and suspected facet involvement
Approach: Targeted injection to differentiate between myofascial and facet-origin pain.
6. Bilateral L5 and Left L3 Transforaminal Epidural Steroid Injections (TFESI)
Case: 59-year-old female with radicular pain, spondylolisthesis, and canal stenosis
Approach: Fluoroscopic-guided nerve root targeting to reduce inflammation and restore mobility.
Why Day 3 Was Special
Full-Day Live Patient Session: Every participant performed or assisted in multiple cases
Variety of Pathologies: From small-joint injections to complex spinal interventions
Dual Guidance Techniques: Mastery of both ultrasound and fluoroscopy in one day
Direct Faculty Mentorship: One-on-one supervision for every needle placement
Ethical Practice: All procedures are done with proper consent, sterile technique, and patient safety protocols
Impact on Participants
By the end of Day 3, participants had:
Observed procedures that they had previously only read about
Gained confidence in imaging interpretation and needle guidance
Developed the skill to integrate these techniques into their practice immediately
The Asian Pain Academy Pain Medicine Workshop remains committed to bridging the gap between textbook knowledge and clinical mastery. Day 3 of this batch once again proved that true learning happens in the procedure room, not just in the classroom.
