Pain Management Fellowship in India 2026

If you've been thinking about stepping into interventional pain medicine — or taking your existing skills to the next level — April 2026 might just be the turning point in your career.

Asian Pain Academy (APA) is launching its next batch of Pain Management Fellowship programs on 8th April 2026, and whether you're a fresh postgraduate looking for direction or a seasoned clinician wanting to add procedural skills, there's a program built exactly for you.

Let's break down what's starting, what's included, and why this might be the most practical decision you make for your career this year.

Why April 2026 Is a Big Month for Pain Management Fellowship in India

The April 2026 batch marks the simultaneous launch of APA's flagship fellowship programs — programs that have already trained doctors from across India and multiple countries. These aren't passive video courses you forget about after week two. Every session is live, interactive, and built around the realities of clinical practice.

APA has quietly built a reputation as one of the more serious platforms for interventional pain training in South Asia. The faculty comes from active clinical practice, the curriculum covers both fluoroscopy-guided and ultrasound-guided procedures, and the format is designed around professionals who are already working full-time.

Here's what's launching in April.

The Two Fellowship Programs Starting 8th April 2026

6-Month Fellowship in Pain Management — The Fast Track into Pain Medicine

Best for: Anesthesiologists, orthopedic surgeons, PMR specialists, neurologists, and MBBS doctors who want a structured, time-efficient entry into pain medicine.

This is APA's most popular program — and for good reason. In six months, you cover the full arc of pain medicine: from understanding pain physiology and reading MRIs to performing fluoroscopy-guided spinal interventions and common ultrasound-guided blocks.

What the curriculum actually looks like:

The course opens with foundational anatomy, physiology, and the basics of ultrasound and fluoroscopy — including radiation safety, which most clinical training programs skim over. From there, it moves systematically through:

  • Lumbosacral radicular pain management (transforaminal epidurals, caudal epidurals, S1 nerve root blocks)

  • Facet joint and SI joint arthropathy

  • Cervical spine interventions including medial branch blocks and cervical epidurals

  • Headache and facial pain — trigeminal neuralgia, sphenopalatine ganglion block, occipital neuralgia

  • Knee, shoulder, elbow, wrist, ankle, and foot pain with corresponding injection techniques

  • Cancer pain management including celiac and splanchnic nerve blocks

  • Complex pain syndromes: fibromyalgia, CRPS, myofascial pain

Bonus inclusions: Access to MSK USG Simulator, APA-EMR software, and APA's Android, iOS, and Windows apps.

1-Year Fellowship in Pain Management — The Complete Pain Specialist Training Program

Best for: Postgraduate doctors (MD Anesthesia, DNB, MS Ortho, DM Neurology, etc.) who want deep, specialist-level training across the full spectrum of pain medicine.

If the 6-month program is a solid foundation, the 1-year fellowship is the full structure. This is APA's most comprehensive pain management fellowship in India — covering everything the shorter program does, and going considerably further with advanced MSK ultrasound, complex nerve blocks, spinal cord stimulation, research and publication support, and optional clinical attachment.

What makes it different:

The 1-year curriculum is built in logical progression. The first half covers foundational and intermediate pain medicine. At the 6-month mark, participants attend their first hands-on workshop in Kolkata — four intensive days focused on fluoroscopic procedures, ultrasound-guided blocks, and supervised live demonstrations.

The second half of the year dives into advanced territory:

  • Detailed MSK Sono-anatomy: rotator cuff, labrum, supraspinatus, quadriceps tendon, and more

  • Advanced nerve blocks: stellate ganglion, brachial plexus, paravertebral, intercostal, erector spinae

  • Spinal cord stimulation for chronic pain and failed back surgery syndrome

  • Foot and ankle ultrasound-guided interventions

  • Abdominal and pelvic pain management

  • Capstone project with faculty presentation

A second 4-day workshop at the end of the year, plus a final evaluation, closes out the program.

Who Should Be Looking at These Programs Right Now

The most common participants are anesthesiologists — pain medicine sits naturally in that specialty. But the April batch will almost certainly include orthopedic surgeons adding joint injection skills, PMR physicians expanding into spine interventions, neurologists interested in headache and facial pain procedures, and general practitioners who want to build a focused pain clinic practice.

Junior doctors and postgraduates preparing for FIPP or CIPS will find the structured curriculum particularly useful — the programs cover the procedural and anatomical content those certifications test extensively.

If you've been waiting to figure out whether pain medicine is the right direction for your career, a 6-month fellowship is a low-commitment way to find out. If you already know you want to build a pain practice, the 1-year program gives you the clinical depth to do it properly.

The Optional Hands-On Workshop — What Actually Happens in Kolkata

Both programs offer an optional 4-day hands-on workshop conducted at APA's training facilities in Kolkata (Rajarhat Pain Clinic and Samobathi Pain Clinic).

These sessions aren't passive observation. Participants work on mannequins and live volunteers, practice needle placement under C-arm guidance, observe RF ablation procedures, and get direct feedback from faculty. For anyone planning to perform these procedures independently, the hands-on component shifts the learning from theoretical understanding to actual procedural confidence.

The workshop isn't mandatory — which makes the online-only option genuinely accessible — but for anyone who can attend, it's worth considering seriously.

Practical Details Worth Knowing Before You Register

Platform access: Classes are on Zoom. The app (Asian Pain Academy on Android, My Institute on iOS) gives you access to recordings, study materials, weekly tests, and the MSK USG simulator. The simulator alone — which is included free — is something most courses don't offer.

Recordings: If you miss a live class, the recording is available for the full course duration. You won't fall behind because of a busy OPD/OT week.

Evaluation: Final assessment is conducted at the end. For the 1-year program, there's also a capstone project. Minimum passing mark is 50%.

Refund policy: 100% refund if you cancel more than a month before the first class. The refund percentage decreases as you get closer to the start date, dropping to zero 2 days before.

SAARC discount: Participants from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka are eligible to register at Indian rates.

FAQs: Pain Management Fellowship India 2026

1. Is this pain management fellowship recognized internationally? The fellowship is issued by Asian Pain Academy and validated by the American Accreditation Association (AAA). It is a specialized post-degree training program, not a university degree.

2. Can an MBBS doctor with no postgraduate degree join the 6-month fellowship? Yes. The 6-month Pain Management Fellowship is open to MBBS doctors who have a genuine interest in pain medicine. The 1-year fellowship requires a postgraduate degree, diploma, or DNB in a relevant specialty such as anaesthesia, orthopaedics, PMR, neurology, or internal medicine.

3. How are the live classes structured, and what happens if I miss one? Live classes run on Zoom, 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM IST. If you miss a session, the recording is available within the course app for the full duration of your enrollment. You can review any session as many times as you need.

4. Is the hands-on workshop in Kolkata compulsory? No, it's optional. You can enroll in the online-only version of either program. However, if you plan to perform these procedures independently in practice, the workshop provides supervised hands-on experience that online learning can't fully replicate.

5. What is the difference between the 6-month and 1-year pain management fellowship? The 6-month program covers general pain management, C-arm guided procedures, and a selection of common ultrasound-guided interventions — solid foundational training in a shorter timeframe. The 1-year fellowship covers all of that in greater depth, adds advanced MSK ultrasound, complex nerve blocks, spinal cord stimulation, research support, and includes the option of a 2-month clinical attachment at an affiliated training center.

6. Can doctors from outside India register for these courses? Yes. International participants are actively enrolled in both programs.

7. How do I pay the course fee if I'm outside India? International participants can pay via , PayU, PayPal or SWIFT bank transfer. Indian participants have additional options including UPI, NEFT, IMPS, or cash deposit through Bank of Baroda branches.

If you've been on the fence, the April 2026 batch is a concrete opportunity. Pain medicine as a specialty is growing steadily across India, and structured fellowship training — especially one that includes procedural skills — is still far less common than the demand for it. That gap is where a well-timed qualification can make a real difference to your practice.
